1959 Born in Owensboro, Kentucky.

1973 First job working in a tropical fish store.

1982-83 Graduated from Brescia College with a BS in business and a minor in computer studies.  Computer Science degrees weren't being offered then and going away to school wasn't an option for me.  I worked full time and went to school full time my last year trying to graduate before I ran out of money.

1983 First programming job!  I computerized for the first time (mine and theirs) an electronics wholesaler's accounting system.  The system was an Altos 586 running Xenix, Microsoft's version of UNIX.  The 586 designation had nothing to do with today's Pentium processor.  This machine had an 8 bit processor and maybe 128k (not meg) of RAM.  Still it could handle five simultaneous users.

1985 Moved to Colorado to work for AT&T Bell Labs as a contract software developer.  A lucky break allowed me to work on a new technology, Computer Telephony Integration, that gave me the background I needed to start Gold Systems.

1991 Co-founded Gold Systems with my friend Jim Fudge.  We planned the company at night and on weekends with another friend, Kevin Obenchain.  Kevin served on our board until 1997 and continues today to be a valuable advisor and friend.

1992 Gold Systems ends the year with $130,738 in revenue.

1995 Gold Systems breaks $1,000,000 annual revenue barrier before the year is out.

1996 One of the founding members of the Colorado chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization (YEO)

1997 Added Brad Feld, Bud Sorenson and Bill Payne to Gold Systems Board of Directors.  These three people have been critical to Gold Systems' success.

1997 Spun off Click-n-Call to develop internet telephony applications for call centers.  We were way too early in the market, underunder funded and under much on a large corporate partner.  I learned many valuable lessons before closing down the company.

1998 Gold Systems named to the Inc 500 and the Deloitte & Touche Fast 500.

1998 Served on my first Board of Advisors for Lumio Technologies, a Boulder Technology Incubator client.  Lumio sold its technology in 1999.

1999 Created terrygold.com as a place to share lessons I've learned about being an entrepreneur.  Made my first dollar in eCommerce with an amazon.com book referral.

1999 Appointed to the Board of Directors of the Boulder Technology Incubator, now CTEK.  Joined the Advisory Boards of TeamLabs and WorldAdventures.com.

1999 Gold Systems named to the  Deloitte & Touche Colorado Fast 50 for the second year in a row and to the Boulder County Esprit Entrepreneur Hot 25 Companies to Watch list.

2000 Gold Systems named to the  Deloitte & Touche Colorado Fast 50 for the third year in a row. Jim Fudge and Terry awarded the "Esprit Entrepreneur of Distinction" Gold Systems received 'Best Local Employer' by Readers Choice Awards in Boulder County.

2001 Gold Systems named to the  Deloitte & Touche Colorado Fast 50 for the forth year in a row.

2002 Gold Systems named to the  Deloitte & Touche Colorado Fast 50 for the fifth year in a row.

2003 Gold Systems named to the  Deloitte & Touche Colorado Fast 50 for the sixth year in a row. Gold Systems named number 15 on the Denver Business Journal’s list of the 25 Fastest Growing Large Colorado Private Companies. Gold Systems ranked number 99 on Denver Business Journal’s list of the 100 Largest Colorado Private Companies.
